Fallen Sons of Kings

from Geardagum by Karmic Ashes

/

about

This song is about the Germanic kings and leaders who chose to forsake their native religion and to adopt Christianity in the early- and high-Middle Ages, and their subsequent turning against and brutal conversion campaigns against their former religious kin. The song also reflects this external reality with the internal conflict between virtuous and wicked action, ending with an exhortation to understand the consequences of one's actions and to look ahead to the foreseeable end of this civilization.

lyrics

Hark 'midst the timbers
Seek out the call
Turning from the sun to encroach deeper

(Chorus)
Signature sickness, the guilt of masters
You're suffering now, eternal sleeper

Happiness fleets, alighting under the starlight
Where the sun shines it can never be found

(Chorus)

The sorrow of the land spoken through gnarled deceit
Betrayals of yore
Hateful tide of the cross knew no retreat
Shadowed walls of our stone prisons
Sins washed away by the light
An empire of spider's silk
Toiling until their last breath

(Chorus)

Hamstrung autonomy
Begotten of our vices
Rest not until the seed of filth is rooted out
Oath to the earth, not even the falling tears of heaven
Could snuff out the coming fire
May only ash remain
